Before The SB Program.

One of Nike's earlier attempts at breaking into the skate world. The ads were good. It just took a minute for Nike to realize what they already had. Pretty much every skate shoe company out has a model based on the Dunk. Big ups to Nike for the ads and the foresight. They should bring back that campaign.

The outside worlds view of skateboarding has changed from the time when these ads first hit the air waves but not all that much. I think Nikes influence may have had something to do with that. With a company their size showing interest on this level to our art form it gave an impression of legitimacy to skateboarding and forced the outsider world to reevaluate its stance. It also helped open the door for big business who saw that there was (is) money to made. And in turn for us to make money from them. Whether this is good or bad is still up for debate.

The last one is the extended version of the Running spot.

Hero Installment No. 1

This is first installment of "Hero". It's just a little head nod to those who have influenced skateboarding. And in turn shaped the way we see the world. Let's face it, nobody else divides the world into two categories. What can be skated and what can't.

Skateboarding and art have been hand in since those landlocked surfers back in the 60's realized they had a canvas below their feet. The above happens to be a short interview with one of todays top graphic designers in the field. I'm not gonna tell which companies he's done work for. That's pretty obvious once you see his style. This interview was taken from The Arkitip website. It went along with issue No. 0045, that Evan Hecox helped put together. The issue was released in March 2008. Good luck finding a back issue.

LIVITY collection

Now most of you have not heard of this brand. But chances are pretty good you have either worn one of there designs or at least seen them in a number of shops under different names. Livity produces hats for a ton of brands. Billabong, Quicksilver and Element to name a few. Basically they keep there finest style for themselves. They are earth conscious as well. Fedoras are all the rage. These are made of hemp, straw and recycled plastic bottles....

Yeah, What The Kid In The Red Hat Said.

So, this contest went down in NYC this past Saturday. And this kid, what's his name? Oh yeah. Luis Tallentino representing Shut Skateboards won the high oillie contest. Whatever, right. Who cares about a high oillie contest anyway. Did I mention shit was 45 inches high. That's 3 inches short of 4 feet for all those mathematically challenged. Can we say WORLD RECORD! Yes we can! Congratulations Mr. Tallentino. Fast forward to about a minute forty three to see the pervious record get shattered.

The Bronze Age.

Alright, so this ARTIST named Tom Sachs made just about the most perfect quarterpipes ever. The problem (there always has to be one, right?) is that they are located within a gallery space of a Park Avenue office building in midtown Manhattan. Furthermore, they are "ART" and made out of bronze. Sachs himself said, “If it’s made in bronze, it’s no longer this menacing object of noise and liability but now something that has to be protected.” What the hell does that even mean? "menacing object of noise and liability......" Statements like that lead me to believe dude has never touched a skateboard.

The Facts Of Life.

Salad Days

Wishing for the days
When I first wore this suit
Baby has grown older,
It's no longer cute
Too many voives
They've made me mute
Baby has grown older,
It's no longer cute

But I stay on, I stay on
Where do I get off?
On to greener pastures
The core has gotten soft

Look at us today
We've gotten soft and fat
Waiting for the moment,
It's just not coming back
So serious
About the stuff we lack
Dwell upon our memories
But there are no facts

The truth in those words has never been more clear to me than right now. Skateboarding, I love you. I don't understand why you hurt me so.
